Flower in home decoration

Just as people have their own personalities, so do their homes. Professionals use this technique constantly. Open up any home magazine to see how flowers are used to achieve a sophisticated[1] look. And yet you need not be a professional interior designer. Almost anyone can decorate with flowers to create a personal and picture perfect home interior.

It is said that popular home decorating personalities tend to fall into five categories: classic traditional, casual easy living, modern contemporary, Victorian, or American country.

居家装饰中的鲜花

居室如人，同样具有个性。这一点常常为专业设计者所利用。随便翻开一本家居杂志，看看他们是如何用花营造出精致而不俗的外观。但你并不需要成为一名专业的室内设计师。几乎每个人都可以用花作装饰，创造出既赋个性、又完美如画的室内设计。

一般来说，现在流行的家居装饰风格主要有以下五种：古典传统型、轻松休闲型、现代时髦型、维多利亚型、美国乡村型。

注释：

1. sophisticated：
精密的、老练的。说到精密，当然第一个反应出机器，来看这个句子：精密的设备（sophisticated equipment）；我们说少年老成，也就是说他有与年龄不相称的老练：A young man quite sophisticated for his age.（老成得与其年龄不相称的年轻人。）

Classic Traditional

Design elements include classic furnishings and antiques made out of mahogany, cherry or walnut with elegant fabrics of brocade, silk and tapestry. And call for a mixture[2] of flowers (roses, gladiola, carnations, and lilies to name a few)

古典传统风格

设计要素有：用红木、樱桃木、核桃木做的古式家具，配以锦缎、丝绸和提花毯，要求把不同种鲜花搭配在一起（如玫瑰、唐菖蒲、康乃欣、百合等等。）

2. mixture：
混合、搅拌。做饺子需要一种水和面粉混合物（the mixture of flour and water ）也就是面团。

Casual Easy Living

Casual living lifestyles focus on the simple pleasures of life. The decor includes furniture of natural woods or bleached oaks. Flowers provide nature's balancing formula with that "just picked" look. The flowers (such as sunflowers, daisies, hydrangea, delphinium or tulips) could be placed in a clear glass vase, pitcher or piece of pottery.

轻松休闲风格

休闲的生活方式着力寻找生活中简朴而有乐趣的东西。装饰物包括：用天然木料、漂白过的橡木做的家具。鲜花可以提供一种精心挑选、却又体现自然界的平衡感觉，如太阳花、雏菊、绣球花、飞燕草、郁金香之类的鲜花，可以栽放在玻璃花盆、罐子或陶器里。

Modern Contemporary

Sleek and chic, calls for clean lines, with lots of glass and other man-made materials. Bold, exotic flowers (like callas,) work well to complement this home's clean, open spaces. To complete the dramatic look, flowers are best displayed in frosted[3] glass vases; decorative pottery and metallic containers.

现代时髦风格

整个布局考究别致，追求用玻璃器皿以及其它的合成材料营造的简洁线条；醒目、具有异国情调的鲜花（如马蹄莲）对突出居室的整洁、宽敞起到了补充作用。为了增加整个房间的生动性，鲜花最好装在磨砂花瓶、装饰性的陶罐、或是金属容器里。

3. frost：
霜冻。北京的冬天很冷，早上起来上班的时候看到玻璃上还结着一层白霜：windows covered with frost. 那么这个词在字典里还有一个意思就是“磨砂”，因此我们就可以很容易地得出结论：文中的frosted glass vase就是磨砂玻璃瓶的意思。

Victorian Velvets

Satins, chintz, lace and organza create a feeling of softness and romance in the Victorian home. Fragrant flowers (roses, peonies, gardenias, freesia) in pale peach, lavender, pink, yellow and cream conjure images of romance. Glow in lovely, romantic vases of clear glass, crystal and silver.

维多利亚风格

在维多利亚式的家居中，用锦缎、印花棉布、带子和透明硬纱营造出一种温柔、浪漫的氛围；配以带浅桃红、淡紫、粉红、黄色和奶油色调（如玫瑰、牡丹、栀子花和小仓兰等）芬芳扑鼻的鲜花，魔幻般生成一种浪漫氛围。鲜花最好栽放在可爱而具浪漫情调的玻璃瓶、水晶瓶或银花盆里。

American Country

Recognized as a style its own, American country has become a phenomenon[4]. Woven baskets or simple vases of mixed spring flowers (wild roses,) fit perfectly on a coffee table or kitchen counter. Cut flowers, blooming plants, herbs, wreaths and swags with that farm-fresh look are a natural extension of this homespun decor.

美国乡村风格

美国乡村风格以其独特的魅力被人们所接受，并成为一种独特的风尚。盛在编织的篮子或式样简单的花盆里的混合的春季鲜花（如各式野玫瑰），放置于咖啡桌或厨房的长桌上会产生一种绝妙的效果。插花、开花植物、草本植物、花环和具有乡村气息的垂挂装饰物自然而然成为这种朴素的装饰格调的组成部分。

4. phenomenon：
现象、迹象、奇迹。但是今天在这儿我们要说的是这个词另外的一个意思“特别的事情”，例如：a historical phenomenon（特别的历史事件）。
