Remember Me When I Am Gone Away

Remember me when I am gone away,
　　Gone far away into the silent land;
　　When you can no more hold me by the hand,
　　Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.

Remember me when no more day by day
　　You tell me of our future that you plann'd
　　Only remember me; you understand
　　It will be late to counsel then or pray

Yet if you should forget me for a while
　　And afterwards remember, do not grieve;
　　For if the darkness and corruption leave
　　A vestige[1]of the thoughts that once I had,
　　Better by far you should forget and smile
　　Than that you should remember and be sad.[2]

记着我吧，当我离你而去，
去到遥远的地方一片寂静；
那时你再不能把我的手拉紧，
我也不能转身要走却又迟疑。

记着我吧，当你再不能天天
告诉我你为咱俩设计的未来；
只要你还记着我；你也明白
那时商量或祈祷都为时已晚。

但你若想要暂时将我忘掉，
然后再把我记起，也不必忧伤；
因为在那黑暗和腐朽之乡，
若尚能留下些许我过去的思绪，
我但愿你能将我忘记而微笑，
也远远胜似你伤心地把我记起。

注释：

1. vestige的本意是指“残留的部分、痕迹”，比如说“吃剩下的饭菜”就是vestiges of a meal; 如果看到一个爱撒谎的人正在向你的好又灌输什么，你就要告诉你的好友： There is not a vestige of truth in what he says.(他所说的没一句真话。这里作者用vestige表达出自己“曾有过的思绪”；

2. 这句话是个省略句，恢复过来应是：It is better by far that you should forget and smile than that you should remember and be sad；此处出现的better by far 可以当做一个固定说法来记忆，表示“远远胜于……”；

作者介绍

作者是Christina Rossetti 克里斯蒂娜·罗塞蒂。《记着我》这首诗表现了诗人恋恋不舍的情怀。虽然诗人意识到，生死两地，“你已不能再把我的手紧握，我也不能再犹豫着，欲去还留。”但诗人分明还记得“那无休止对我描绘我俩未来生活”的场景，希望“在黑暗和腐朽之余还留下我思念的一点痕迹”。最后，诗人挣扎着说出，“我情愿你忘记而面带笑容/也不愿你记住而愁容悲戚”, 淋漓尽致地表现出“渴望挣脱而又欲舍难留的复杂心情”。
