Madonna Spooked[1]
The near-fatal stabbing of George Harrison has forced other stars to reevaluate[2] their own security, and nearly all have found they're more vulnerable than they thought. Only weeks after buying a $6.55 million home in London, Madonna has put it back up[3] for sale. The star's security advisers told her that the four-story mansion she had purchased in London's trendy Chelsea district was totally unsuitable for a celebrity. "We are talking about a house that is perfectly visible from the road," the London Times quotes an unidentified source close to Madonna as saying. "Given what happened to George Harrison and Jill Dando [the BBC TV anchor[4] who was murdered in front of her home in April 1999], it was just untenable[5] for her. Anyone with a profile needs to be slightly neurotic[6] about their safety in the current climate[7]." Madonna will be flying into London today to search for a new home with better security, reports the Times. There's no official word from the pop star on the matter. However, the singer-actress may still be spooked from an October death threat that was called into British Airways and that necessitated a police escort for her and her daughter when they landed at London's Heathrow airport. Other Hollywood celebs who've purchased homes in London include Tom Cruise and Claudia Schiffer, both of whom have homes in the fashionable Notting Hill neighborhood.
