Casablanca Dialogue IV

Laszlo: Everything is in order[1].
Rick: All except one thing. There's something you should know before you leave.
Laszlo: Mr. Blaine I don't ask you to explain anything.
Rick: I'm going to anyway[2] because it may make a difference to you later on. You said you knew about Ilsa and me.
Laszlo: Yes.
Rick: But she didn't know she was at my place last night when you were. She came there for the letters of transit.
Laszlo: Isn't that true, Ilsa?
Ilsa: Yes.
Rick: She tried everything to get them and nothing worked[3]. She did her best to convince me that she was still in love with me. That was all over long ago. For your sake[4] she pretended it wasn't and I let her pretend.
Laszlo: I understand.
Rick: Here it is.
Laszlo: Thanks. I appreciate it. We'll come back to the fight. This time I know our side will win.
Laszlo: Are you ready Ilsa?
Ilsa: Yes, I'm ready. Bye, Rick. God bless you[5].
Rick: You'd better hurry, or you'll miss that plane.

注释：

1． in order:
有条理的。我们可以说something's in order，也可以说keep something in order等。最重要的是，别忘了自己的东西要in order啊。

2． I'm going to anyway:
= I'm going to explain anyway，省略了explain，听起来更地道。

3． work:
本意是工作，这里是“奏效，达到目的”的意思。另外，work还有“运转”的意思，比如：手表不走了，机器不转了，甚至电子信箱发不了信了，都可以说“It doesn't work”。

4． for sb's sake:
为了某人的缘故。如果这个sb.不是别人，而是上帝（for God's sake），那意思就变成：天哪、求求你、看在上帝的份儿上……记住了吗？如果你下次对什么事情不耐烦，试试用这个短语吧。

5． God bless you:
上帝保佑你。这可以说是西方国家最常用的祝福语了，只有表达得真诚，这句话就永远不会落俗。
