　　Being John Malkovich is one of those rare cinematic experiences that can work on some level for nearly everyone who sees it. It is a triumphant directing debut for Spike Jonze. The movie themes are familiar, but the manner in which director Jonze and writer Charlie Kaufman address them is fresh and inventive. It revels[2] in smart comedy, and, alongside the laughter, there's plenty of material for contemplation[3]. Cinematically speaking, this is a well-balanced, multi-course meal. pic2

　　《成为约翰·马尔科维奇》是极少数基本上能够被社会各阶层的观众接受的电影作品之一。作为导演斯派克·琼斯的处女作，它获得了很大的成功。尽管电影的主题老旧，但是导演琼斯和编剧查理·考夫曼却用了一种很新鲜而独创的方法来诠释它。这部影片妙在聪明的幽默，观众在笑的同时又有很多东西值得思考。用电影界的话来说，它是一道营养均衡、菜式多样的美餐。

 

 

注解：

1. premise：假定、假设。常用于法律行业，作为专门术语是“前提”的意思。比如a necessary premise to an argument 一个论点的必要前提。另外它的复数premises还可表示“房屋连地基、生产场所”之义。

2. revel：主要有两个意思：一是“陶醉、着迷”，经常与in连用，比如revel in one's success陶醉于成功；另外还有“作乐、狂欢、痛饮”的意思，revels也可以表示“喜庆活动、筵席”。

3. contemplation：凝视、沉思。和一般意义的思考think相比，contemplation强调“庄重的、正式的、神圣的”，尤其指宗教意义上的“敛心默祷、（与上帝同在的）出神”。
