Comments to the Eye of the Beholder

Best Feature: Judd's shameless wardrobe
Worst Feature: Makes Double Jeopardy look logical

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder[1], but I doubt that anyone will see much of it in Ashley Judd's new thriller.

You can look at Judd, I suppose -- her character likes to walk around in her underwear, often while wearing high heels -- but even that activity will distract you only momentarily from a movie that may be even sillier than Judd's last film, Double Jeopardy.

Eye of the Beholder looks as ludicrous[2] as it sounds. While on the run, Joanna favors the kind of incognito[3] outfits that you see only in the movies: huge butterfly sunglasses, outrageous leopard print bandannas, and wigs that look as if they were plucked from a mannequin.

Director Stephan Elliott, best known for The Adventures of Priscilla-- Queen of the Desert, seems to have a fetish[4] for snow globes, as he zooms in and out[5] of the globes that The Eye collects from each city he visits.

Eye of the Beholder aspires to be a masterful meditation[6] on voyeurism along the lines of Peeping Tom or Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window and Vertigo.

As Joanna adds more men to her hit list, with each murder somehow drawing The Eye closer to her heart, you will start to feel dizzy; but I doubt that it will be for the reasons that the filmmakers intended.

　　导演史戴芬·艾略特最著名的作品是《风尘三绝》，他似乎特别迷恋于雪景玻璃球，他的镜头总是摇移于《守护者》在各个城市收集得来的雪景玻璃球中，不断地推进、拉远。

　　《守护者》可望能成为继《偷窥》或希区科克的《后窗》和《晕眩》之后的又一部偷窥题材的精典之作。

　　当看到乔安娜不断加长她的杀人名单，而随着每次谋杀，监视者对她越来越迷恋的时候，你会开始觉得晕眩。但是，我怀疑影片制作者们并没有打算拍出这种效果。
