Because of Double Jeopardy's success, Judd is being used to sell Eye of the Beholder, even if more screen time is given to Ewan McGregor as The Eye, a high-tech private detective suffering from visions of the young daughter whom his wife took away from him because he was spending too much time staring at surveillance[1] monitors.

Ewan McGregor is on a mission to shadow[2] a murderous blackmailer played by Ashley Judd. Professional detachment[3] erodes as McGregor becomes inappropriately fascinated by his target, turning his surveillance of Judd into a voyeuristic obsession[4].

Not to be outdone[5] in the back story department, Judd's Joanna Eris was abandoned by her father as a little girl, spent her youth in juvenile detention centers, and has grown up to become an enchanting murderess who hooks up with wealthy men to enact a pseudo-feminist revenge (back to Double Jeopardy
).

注解：

1. surveillance：监视、看守。例如a surveillance radar system是指“雷达监视系统”。Monitor这个词也有“监视、监听”的意思，但surveillance更强调正式地、职业地监视，比如监视犯人、被保护人等。

2. shadow：你肯定知道shadow是“影子”的意思，但在这里做了动词，是什么意思呢？对，就是象影子一样地——“跟踪、盯梢”：she was being shadowed 她正被人盯梢。另外shadow做动词还可以表示“投影于……、使……变暗”等意思。

　　由于《双重危险》的成功，贾德又成为《守护者》的卖点。尽管在此片中，更多的镜头给了监视者尤恩·麦格雷格，他是一个懂得高科技的私家侦探，由于把太多的时间用在了监视器的前面，她的妻子携女离开了他，而他也因此受到小女儿的幻觉的折磨。

4. obsession：obsess的名词形式：着迷、困扰；着魔、被鬼迷住。常用来表示不正常的喜欢，深陷其中而非常苦恼。

5. outdone：outdo的过去分词。outdo是及物动词，表示“超过、战胜、比……做得更多”的意思，例如outdo each other互相赶超。

6. bizarre：奇形怪状的、异乎寻常的、怪诞的。例如bizarre patterns 稀奇古怪的图案。常见的表示“奇怪”的词有strange, odd, queer等，但bizarre表示“奇怪”的程度更深，一般形容“非常奇怪、奇异、不可理解”才用到这个词。
