注释：

1. Senate：参议院。美国的国会Congress分为参议院Senate和众议院House of Representatives，它们代表着美国的立法机构Legislative。

2. outgoing：看字面意思不难明白outgoing“往外去、离去的”意思，比如an outgoing plane就是外航飞机，outgoing mail就是外发信件；另外outgoing也常用来形容人“友好的、乐于助人的”。如果outgoing作名词，而且是复数形式outgoings，那就是out going 的money ——“支出、开销”的意思。

3. break：break作名词有很多意思，比如“课间休息、放假、天亮、裂缝”等等，在这里的意思是“（态度、生活、运程等）的转变、急转”，指Anette由寂寂无名的小演员变成了耀眼的明星。

4. promising：promise是“允诺、承诺”的意思，不难联想到它的形容词promising就是“有指望的、有希望的、有前途的”意思，比如可以夸奖一个有出息的男孩为“a promising boy”，a promising beginning就是“有希望的开端”。

5. sought her out：原形seek sb. out一个意思是“找出、挑出”，另一个意思是“来找”，比如He sought her out to ask the reason. 他来找她问究竟是什么原因。
