The Rise Of an Industry(1930s)

groupDeep in the throes of the Great Depression, more Americans than ever took solace in the free entertainment provided by radio. As a result, Barn Dance shows modeled after[1] the Grand Ole Opry filled the airwave across rural America. By the end of the decade, however, the popularity of fiddle and string band music began to wane and was gradually replaced by singer/songwriters like Jimmie Rodgers, The Carter Family, and Roy Acuff.

Meanwhile, in Texas, parallel musical trends were developing. The myth of the Old West helped creat "singing cowboys" like Gene Autry, while Bob Wills began perfecting a jazz-influenced style of country he dubbed "western-swing."

Other Noteworthy Artists include:
The Delmore Brothers
Bradley Kincaid
Patsy Montana
J.E. Mainer
Pee Wee King
The Sons of the Pioneers
Roy Rogers
