(1939)A Man and His Music
Bill
Monroe is the only musician who can claim to have single-handedly spearheaded[1]
an entire genre of country music. Monroe's "bluegrass" is a natural outgrowth
of the string band movement, and features intricate arrangements on top
of high-energy, driving rhythms. Bluegrass's soaring musical lines are
as invigorating to listen to as they are difficult to play, which might
help to explain why Monroe's influence can be felt across generations.
Other Noteworthy Artists include:
Flatt & Scruggs
The Stanley Brothers
Mac Wiseman
Jimmy Martin
Jim & Jesse
Reno & Smiley
The Osborne Brothers
The Lewis Family
Vassar Clements
