Who Pays for Date
An important question about eating out we had better discuss right now, at the beginning, is who pays for the meal. If a friend of yours suggests you have lunch with him, you might simply say something like this, "I' m afraid it' ll have to be some place inexpensive, as I have very little money." The other person may say, "O.K., I' ll meet you at McDonald' s." This means it is agreed that the two will go Dutch[1], that is, each person pays for himself. He may also say, "Oh, no. I want to take you to lunch at Johnson's", or "I want you to try the steak there. It' s great[2]." This means the person intends to pay the bill for both of you. If you feel friendly towards this person, there is no reason why[3] you should't accept this invitation. You may simply say, "Thank you. That would be very nice."
American customs about who pays for dates are much the same[4] as those in other parts of the world. American women used to expect men to pay for all the meals. But, today, a woman who is a university student or is working in the business world will usually pay her way during the day. If, however, a man asks her to attend something special outside the normal working hour cocktails or dinner or a dance or movie-the invitation itself means "come as my guest." So, as you can see, it is a polite thing to make the situation clear at the very[5] beginning. Lack of clarity will often cause losing of face.

2. It's great:太好了。

3. reason why:...... The reason why he is sad is unknown.(没有人知道他为什么伤心。)

4. much the same (as):几乎(和...)一样。The same是“和...

He is the very person I am looking for.(他就是我要找的人。)
