塞纳河序曲

pic Seine[1], river of northern France, rising on[2] the Plateau[3] of Langres, near Dijon[4], and flowing northwest past Troyes, Fontainebleau, Paris, and Rouen[5], into the English Channel. The estuary, about 10 km (about 6 mi) wide, passes between le Havre and Honfleur. The river is about 776 km (about 482 mi) long. It is navigable[6] for riverboats from Bar-sur-Seine, more than 563 km (350 mi) from its mouth, and for ocean shipping from Rouen, about 121 km (about 75 mi) from its mouth. The seine drains[7] an area of more than 77, 700 sq km (30,000 sq mi). It receives the Aube, Marne, and Oise rivers from the north and the Yonne and Eure rivers from the south. It is connected by canals with the Schelde (also called the Escaut), Meuse, Rhine, Saine, and Loire rivers. In January 1910 disastrous[8] floods occurced; the river rose more than 7 m (24 ft) above its normal level at Paris, Serious flooding also occurred in 1993 and 1995. In ancient times, the Seine River was known as the Sequana.

1． Seine：塞纳河是法国北部河流。源自东部朗格勒高原，流经巴黎，在勒阿弗尔附近注入英吉利海峡，全长776公里，通航河段564公里，轮船可直达鲁昂。沿岸地区为经济中枢。同索姆河、莱茵河、索恩河与卢瓦尔河等皆有运河相通。

2． rising from：在这里是指"发源、起源"。这个词经常用来指河流，比如：Where does the Yellow River rise from? 黄河的起源在哪儿？当然也可以指抽象概念，比如：争吵起源于误会。可以这样说： The quarrels rise from misapprehension.

3． Plateau of Langres：朗格勒高原。

4． Dijon：第戎，法国东部城市。科多尔省省会。

5． Troyes, Fontainebleau, Paris, and Rouen：它们分别是法国的四大城市：特鲁瓦、枫丹白露（法国著名宫殿）、巴黎、鲁昂。

6． navigable：适于航行的。-able是一个表示"能够……的"的词缀。navigate表示"航行"。

7． drains：在这儿是指"河流带走了这片地区多余的水"。

8． disastrous：灾难性的。比如，文革时期的disastrous mistakes使我国的经济倒退了数十年。这个词还能指"极糟糕的"，比如在看中国足球赛时，我们最担心的就是碰上a disastrous score糟糕的比分。
