20世纪体坛最佳

　　《体育画报》评选出20世纪体坛最佳。1999年12月2日，体育界最耀眼的巨星聚集在纽约麦迪逊广场花园，参加《体育画报》20世纪体育奖的颁奖仪式。庆典是以公布7个领域中42名本世纪优秀运动员候选人名单开始的，每个领域都将产生一名最终的优胜者。

SI honors world's greatest athletes

　　The biggest names in sports gathered in New York's Madison Square Garden on Dec. 2, 1999, for Sports Illustrated's 20th Century Sports Awards. The festivities began with a list of 42 nominees* in seven categories, with one winner selected from each group.
　　
　　The first award of the night, for the century's greatest football player, went to Jim Brown. The last, for the SI Sportsman of the Century, went to the great Muhammad Ali.

　　In addition, the magazine also honored an elite group of seven athletes who had a special impact on their sports, including Fleming (figure skating), King (tennis), Palmer (golf), Pelé (soccer), Petty (motor sports), Jackie Robinson (baseball) and Russell (basketball).
