Elian Gonzalez's grandmother, Raquel Rodriguez, headed to Miami, where they hoped to see their grandson before returning to Cuba.

　　Elian Gonzalez's grandmothers left Miami this evening without visiting their 6-year-old grandson because of a dispute over where the meeting was to take place. The women, who arrived in Miami this afternoon, had wanted to visit Elian at a neutral location.
　　 The Cuban-American relatives with whom Elian has been staying for the last two months had invited maternal grandmother Raquel Rodriguez and paternal grandmother Mariela Quintana to dinner at their Little Havana home, saying they wanted the grandmothers to see how the boy was doing in his new environment.
　　 But as evening turned into night, the impasse continued, with the Miami family eating without the grandmothers. After waiting five hours at an airport facility about 15 miles away, the women flew to Washington, where they were scheduled to meet Tuesday with several members of Congress.


 


祖母离开迈阿密
　　因为对见面地点没有达成一致，埃利安的祖母们今天夜间没有与她们六岁的孙子见面就离开了迈阿密。今天下午抵达迈阿密祖母们原希望在中立地点会面。
