  Russia closes in on rebels

　　Russian forces say they have made big gains in the mountains of southern Chechnya, where thousands of rebel fighters have their remaining stronghold.
　　After days of fierce air and artillery raids and an onslaught by thousands of troops, the Russians say they have captured nearly all of the important areas around the strategic Argun and the Vedeno gorges, cutting the rebels off.
　　However, the BBC's Mike Williams in neighbouring Ingushetia says that although the rebels are under tremendous pressure from rocket batteries and strike aircraft, they still hold territory and can move in small numbers through the rugged hills.
　　About 8,000 Chechen fighters retreated to bases in the mountains after being forced out of the capital, Grozny.


 



俄军包围车臣叛军
　　俄罗斯军方宣称俄军在进攻车臣南部山区的战斗中取得了重大胜利，南部山区的叛军营地中目前藏匿着数千名车臣叛军。
　　在经过多日空中地面的猛烈炮火攻击后，俄军发起了一次数千军队的进攻，俄军宣布已经夺取了Argun与Vedeno峡谷的几乎全部战略要地，并切断了车臣叛军之间的联系。
　　然而，据BBC记者Mike Williams在邻国印古什的报道，虽然在导弹与飞机的攻击下车臣军队经受的压力极大，但是他们仍然保有阵地，并能在山区间小规模运动。
