Russians say they are in control of the Argun Gorge

　Senior Russian military commanders say they have inflicted heavy casualties on Chechen militants, after another day of fierce battles in southern Chechnya.
　　Commander Sergey Markov, in an interview with Russian television, said Russian troops, backed by aircraft and artillery, had killed an estimated 600 Chechen rebels in the past three days.
　　 "Unfortunately we also have losses" he added, conceding that at least 31 Russian soldiers had been killed in the fighting.
　　 Chechen rebels are attempting to break out of a cordon set up by the Russians around the Argun gorge in southern Chechnya.

车臣爆发激战
　　俄罗斯军队高级指挥官日前表示俄军在车臣南部又一天的猛烈战斗中给予车臣叛军严重打击。
　　俄军指挥官马可夫在俄罗斯电台的访谈中，宣布俄军士兵在飞机与炮火的帮助下，在三天的激战中击毙了约有600名左右的车臣叛乱分子。
　　“不幸的是我们也蒙受了巨大的损失，”他补充说，他承认至少有31名俄军士兵在战斗中阵亡。
　　在战斗中，车臣叛军试图突破俄军在车臣南部阿尔贡峡谷设立的封锁线。
