Democrat Al Gore and Republican George W Bush are set to win their respective presidential nominations, according to exit polls carried out on Tuesday. Having routed their party challengers in last week's blitz of "Super Tuesday" state races, the two candidates now look certain to reach the number of delegates they need.
A survey carried out by the Associated Press news agency in six Southern primary states concludes that Mr Bush's delegate count will reach 1,090, and Gore's will reach at least 2,540 by the end of the night - far more than required. Florida's polls closed first, sending the two candidates on a triumphant march across the South. |
