Thousands braved the rain to protest

More than 30,000 people have marched through the city of Pamplona in
northern Spain to protest at the killing of an army officer, an act blamed
on the Basque separatist group ETA.
The march came just hours after ETA had admitted responsibility for
12 recent shootings and bombings in Spain,
which have resulted in the deaths of two politicians.
Braving pouring rain, the protesters were led by the widow
of the murdered officer and his father, as well as representatives of
Spain's main political parties.
ETA has claimed responsibility for seven deaths since December last
year, when it ended a 14 month ceasefire. It has been blamed for more
than 800 deaths since its violent campaign for an independent Basque homeland
began in 1968.
