从句实战(二)

　　前面我们有专门的一讲讲解阅读中定语从句的分析法。今天我们就来练练手，也顺便复习一下吧。

　　你先来看看下面的这个句子：
　　When we talk about someone's personality, we mean the ways in which he or she acts, speaks, thinks and feels that make that individual different from others.

　　首先，我们能看得出，这是一个从句。按我们以前讲过的方法，分析从句要先找出主句。When引导的是个时间状语从句，那么后面的就很可能是主句了。仔细一看，果然这we mean the ways...就是主句。主句中又含了两个定语从句， in which he or she acts...和that make that individual different... 共同修饰the ways的。

　　那么这个长句的整个结构就是： When we talk..., we mean the ways [(in which he or she acts,...) (that make...)].

　　最大的结构是个时间状语从句，在主句中又含有两个定语从句。

　　这句话的意思是：当我们说到某个人的个性时，我们是指这个人在举止、言谈、思考以及感受等方面区别于他人的方式。

　　我们再来看看下面的这个句子，试着自己分析一下。

　　First it will pass through sharp metal bars which tear open the plastic bags in which rubbish is usually packed.
