“10分钟”插入语

　　广大的朋友们，阅读英文想和阅读自己的母语一样轻松自如吗？太难了？不会的。每天读上10--15分钟，久而久之，必然会易如反掌。

　　好了，今天来看一下插入结构。

　　1. Shakespeare was, for one thing, hardworking.
　　说明 for one thing为插入成份，插在系动词和表语之间，前后用逗号隔开，意思是“首先”或“其一”。
　　译文 莎士比亚很勤奋，这是其一。

　　2．That, in my humble opinion, is only one of the minor issues.
　　说明 in my humble opinion 是插入成份，对整句话进行解释。
　　译文 依愚人之见，那只是一个次要问题。

　　3. During the rest of this century, as never before, history will be the study of population.
　　说明as never before 为插入语，插在状语和主句之间，意思是“前所未有的”。
　　译文 在本世纪的剩余年代里，对历史的研究将前所未有地成为对人口的研究。

　　4. The school, he said, consisted of one class of twenty-four boys, ranging in age from seven to thirteen.
　　说明 he said 为插入语，放在了主语the school与谓语consisted of 中间，现在分词ranging在句中作boys的后置定语。
　　译文 他说，学校只有一个班，共24名男生，年龄从7岁到13岁不等。

　　5. They appear to do everything in a rush, with an eye on the clock, as if they had a short time to live.
　　说明 介词短语with an eye on the clock是插入语，在句中作伴随状语，as if 从句中的谓语动词是虚拟语态。
　　译文 他们看上去做一切事情都匆匆忙忙，眼睛盯着时钟，似乎他们的有生之年极其短暂。
